Touching The Void
In 1985, two young climbers, Joe Simpson (Brendan Mackey) and Simon Yates (Nicholas Aaron), set out to be the first to reach the icey summit of the Siula Grande Mountain. They succeed, and the two embark on the treacherous descent down the mountain — only to meet with disaster when Simpson breaks his leg in a fall, leaving Yates to lower him the rest of the way with ropes. An incredible true account of tragedy, friendship and human endurance.
The Terror
This Ridley Scott series is based on the imagined fate of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, which went missing along with 129 crew in 1845 as Sir John Franklin led them in a search for the fabled North-West Passage through the Arctic circle. Frozen and isolated at the end of the earth. A chilling tale following one of polar exploration’s deepest mysteries, with a crew stalked by a murderous presence.
Frozen Planet
You just can’t beat an Attenborough documentary so of course we have included one in tonight’s options. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough and from the award-winning team behind Planet Earth & Blue Planet comes the ultimate portrait of the earth’s Polar regions. It chronicles the ecosystems and animals of the Arctic and Antarctic, where the filmmakers spent more than 2,300 days in the field and 18 months at sea to record unprecedented footage.
